Artist Statement
To me, there is nothing more exciting than a fresh idea for a film. Taking that idea and bringing it to fruition is where the fun lies. I enjoy the collaborative nature of filmmaking. The exchange of ideas in a creative process is a powerful form of intimacy. It is incredibly fulfilling to create something with others that is greater than anything you could have done on your own.
I am format agnostic when it comes to filmmaking. I have traditionally worked with video, but am also currently shooting on film. I believe that you should use whatever format works best for the project. Don't let cost hold you back!
I like odd ways of looking at things. Weird is good. I seek out the unusual in my choice of projects. I like to use humour as a way to deal with serious subject matter – it helps people to temporarily put aside their predjudices, and breaks down barriers. A clever device will get people thinking instead of just reacting to material. I don’t want to take myself or my work too seriously; I want to keep it fun. For me, filmmaking is first and foremost about entertaining.
